In 2014, Danielle Waters and her husband Greg Waters relocated from New York City to Southern California for a life reboot. It was an amazing experience that inspired them to launch VIRA SUN (pronounced veer-uh sun) a brand of sunglasses dedicated to yogis.
« Southern California is a magical place—people take great pride in cultivating a healthy lifestyle for themselves. Practicing yoga is a way of life for many, and outdoor activities are the norm. The perpetually sunny weather is extremely energizing, and a good pair of sunglasses is a must! »

They currently offer 4 different models of sunglasses with roughly 30 different colorways available. All of the sunglasses are named after yoga poses : Warrior, Full Wheel, Half Moon, and King Pigeon. All styles are unisex by design and feature polarized lenses with UV400.

POP SPIRIT – Tell us the story behind VIRA SUN, how did everything start for you?
DANIELLE WATERS – My husband, Greg, and I have always wanted to start a business together. I have a background in fitness sales and I’m an exercise physiologist by education; Greg is a marketing professional with roots in the action sports world. When we looked at the yoga industry, we realized there were numerous brands focused on pretty much every product except sunglasses. So we set out to launch a sunglasses brand inspired by our mutual love and respect for yoga, as well as our great appreciation for all things fitness, fashion and art.
We also realize how expensive it can be to purchase many of the products, classes, and studio memberships that accompany an active lifestyle. That’s exactly why we’ve worked hard to develop a sunglasses line that’s marked by quality, style, and affordable prices.
PS – What is your brand’s mission and what do you value most in your business?
DW – Our mission is to offer fitness and yoga enthusiasts a fun fashion accessory that will take them from “hatha to happy hour” without breaking the bank. What we value most in our business is the amazing community of yogis we’ve met along the way; our fans and customers mean the world to us—without them there would be no us!

PS – What characterizes the VIRA SUN vibe?
With a brand name derived from the virtuous Warrior pose, or in Sanskrit Virabhadrasana, the Vira Sun vibe is all about yoga, sweat, spirit and art—four things that we’re incredibly passionate about. We want to encourage our fans to follow their individual passions and we promise to accept and support them along the way. We’re all about living life with passion and having fun!
PS – Which strong feminine figure inspires you?
DW – Michelle Obama. She has such an amazing platform to encourage healthy living through diet and exercise at an early age—not only in the US, but around the world. I think she’s done an amazing job of delivering that message in a relatable, authentic way.
PS – What makes you stay positive every day?
DW – The love of my family and friends inspires me daily. When I’m feeling down (because it does happen), a good workout always changes my mood and energizes my soul.

PS – Do you have special projects aligned for this summer?
DW – We just launched a partnership with Yoga Foster, the national non-profit that empowers public school teachers with yoga resources to create healthier, happier classrooms. For each pair of special edition Vira Sun x Yoga Foster sunglasses we sell through our website, we donate $20 to Yoga Foster which uses the funds to provide a year’s worth of yoga programming for one New York City public school student. So the more ‘’sunnies’’ we sell, the greater the impact we’ll have on students throughout NYC. We’re extremely proud of this partnership. Now you can look good while you do good!
